Well for those of you into gaming and love living under a rock, we will start with the obvious! As in the pic above Nintendo’s new system The Switch will be released on 3/3/2017 and will cost $299.99 here in America. It will be an at home console and a portable gaming station all in one and aims to make gaming with friends easier then ever. With it being able to connect 8 consoles together for multiplayer games opens a whole new world for casual and hardcore gamers alike. Imagine being able to play Mario Kart with all your friends anywhere you feel like meeting up. It sounds amazing!
Now let’s get to a few things that worry me before we dig any deeper into this system. The price of $300 seems like a risk to me. I see the value in the system and will admittedly pay the money to own one, but my worry is that the consumer that is weary to buy a new Nintendo console after being burned in the past by the Wii and the Wii U will simply choose a different system and have better graphics and a wider game selection for the same price. Hopefully this is not the case but I worry that it will.
One of the main complaints I saw with others about the console was the Joycons (the new controllers) some people were saying that they were way to small. As you can see, they are different but with the rise of smart phones we are already used to typing and using small buttons. I think the idea is awesome and will lead to such great game experiences. These will be available but not a must use because there is also a pro controller that you can use just like the WII U had.
With all that said, the price and controllers will not scare away the of the hardcore audience but I worry about the sales within the general public, which will effect which developers even bother to produce games for the system. Well let’s look at what games were already talked about.
Nintendo did not disappoint in the gaming line up offered. Zelda: Breath of the wild looks amazing on the new system and the new Super Mario Odyssey looks interesting for sure, but it’s the third part companies that are getting involved that peaks my interest. EA is releasing FIFA on the system and it looks as though Skyrim will also be making an appearance. This is huge for Nintendo and a trend that must continue for this console to survive. Here is a quick list of some of the other games we know of: Splatoon 2, Ultra Street Fighter 2, Xenoblade Chronicals 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Dragon Quest games, Octopath Travler, Shin Magami Tensay V, and Sonic Mania! Now that’s a line up!
The bottom line to me is this. Nintendo came out of the gate swinging and showed us all that they are in this to win, but this is just the start. Offering a better online experience is a plus but it has to be worth the subscription fee that will be coming down the line. The third party games are awesome but you have to keep them coming and at least try to keep up with Microsoft and Sony. This is an amazing looking system and if it works as advertised then it will be a home run for them, and one desperately needed. What do you think? Do you agree that the console looks solid and will pick one up or did they miss the mark again? Let us know in the comments below! Thanks for taking the time to read this and until next time!
